Mental Health Support at Work: Breaking the Stigma and Creating Real Change.

A recent poll conducted by People Management reveals that 49% of employees do not feel adequately supported when discussing their mental health at work. Only 37% of respondents feel they have the support they need, while 14% remain unsure about their workplace environment.

This revelation comes on the heels of accusations of 'mental health washing,' where businesses promote the importance of mental health without policies to back it up. The biggest obstacle to organizations providing better mental health support is the lingering stigma associated with it, as Debra Clark, Head of Wellbeing at Towergate Health & Protection, pointed out.

In a separate study by Towergate Health & Protection, just over half (54%) of companies offer mental health support to their employees. This figure varies significantly by company size, with 70% of large corporations providing support compared to 49% of SMEs and 37% of micro-companies. Industries also differ in their support levels, with construction companies providing the least (43%) and healthcare offering the most (80%).
